Appearing this morning on BBC Breakfasts national programme, Leeds Policy Institute President Nicolas Padula Pinho asked whether future increases in the minimum wage will take the cost of living into account:
“In the budget announcement there was a comment about the national minimum wage committee taking into account cost of living in setting the minimum wage. Will this be a new standard for the minimum wage?”
Adding further, Nicolas mentioned that the significant increase in the 18 - 21 minimum wage was welcomed, as many students who had struggled with the cost of living crisis who relied on work required relief.
Among others, Nicolas’ point was left unaddressed by Rachel Reeves as the BBC chose not to consult the chancellor on this particular issue.
